This species is a perennial grass that reaches 4 1/2 feet tall. The blades are flat and thin. The panicle, a long thin flowering structure, is very dense. These plants are found in very aquatic, moist areas, near ditches and stream edges in many parts of the U.S. This grass sheds abundant amounts of pollen.
